Kansas City Winter Wedding | Montgomery Event Venue

Melissa & Doug had the most amazing Kansas City winter wedding at the The Montgomery Event Venue. They truly couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate their marriage. After all, it was the nicest day of the year. The sun was out and shining.

Let’s chat a little bit about how I became their photographer for their Kansas City winter wedding. I’ve known Melissa since she was 11 years old. We were a part of a wonderful group of young ladies called the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. We learned so much about friendship, and to this day, she is one of the most inspiring women I know.

If there is one thing I could tell you about Melissa, it would be how much she loves. She loves openly, fearfully, deeply, and unconditionally. She deserved to find Doug, and together, they have built an MINI empire. It’s been an honor being a part of their love story. I might add what an honor it was to be asked to photograph their winter wedding. I’m so in LOVE with them.

Leading up to Melissa & Dougs’ Kansas City winter wedding, much of their family came down with Covid. Sadly, because of this, a few important members were not able to attend. One was about to be the Grooms Mom. She came down with COVID 3 weeks prior, and since she is also battling cancer, she was afraid she would’t make it. The morning of the wedding, Melissa received news that she couldn’t miss her son getting married. It was important not to tell the groom but yet SURPRISE HIM. Which is what we did! The surprise was one of many amazing moments from their wedding that will forever be treasured.

Words From the Bride

1. What was your favorite part of the wedding day? My favorite part of the day was being surrounded by my family and friends.

2. What is one thing you wish you had planned for that might help other brides who are planning their wedding? I’m not sure. My only advice is to relax, go with the flow and don’t worry nobody will know if something isn’t right.

3. Tell me about the magic you felt during the surprise snowfall for the first dance? I felt like Belle in a Disney Movie. It was one of the best parts of the evening. If you have a winter wedding I absolutely recommend  having snow come down during your first dance.

4. Did Susy and her team help make your day flow? Would you recommend her? Susy and her team made my day run so smoothly. Susy knew when to add extra time for delays that just come up during the day.  When something didn’t go exactly as planned Susy is easy to make adjustment and make it better than we imagined.

5. Anything else we should know?  Our wedding day was PERFECT! I couldn’t have asked for a better team behind the scenes.
