Kansas City Wedding Portraits
This past year feels like it’s been a bit of a blur and I am slowly trying to catch back up with blogging. I figured that starting with a small Kansas City Wedding Portrait Session would be a good place to begin.
I met Dave & Sarah during a family session that they had booked during the reopening of COVID. It was a beautiful spring day and a big SURPRISE when Dave stopped me as we walked towards the location we had picked for the family session he shows me a RING! Yup. He asked if during the shoot we could capture him purposing. Well how could anyone not say YES, to this. It simply was a special surprising moment I will never forget.
Covid sure made planning weddings a challenging and when they reached back out to me to capture thier Kansas City Wedding Portraits.

How did you two meet?
“Sarah and I met in Fall 2019 — on Facebook, actually! We were in a group together, and she looked rather familiar to me. So, I reached out and asked her if she went to Restore Community Church (where I have attended since moving to Kansas City in 2013.) She said yes — and that she was a middle school group leader (and already knew my oldest daughter, Mallory!) Small world!
So, we chatted online, getting to know each other a bit, and made plans to meet at church that Sunday. Instantly, I was smitten. That smile was even more amazing in person. We talked more, then made plans to go to the Improv Comedy Club that evening. It was so nice to spend time together, talking, laughing, and just enjoying each other’s company.Over the months ahead, we found a shared love for hiking, day trips, and doing things outside, and introduced our children to one another, too. (As a matter of fact, both of our 7th-graders knew one another from school as well!) On one family hike that fall, seeing her interact with all of our kids, I knew Sarah was the woman I wanted to spend my life with. So, I started saving!”
“Why not during family photos, right?”
“In keeping with the simple theme, we spent the rest of our weekend together — sans kiddos. We ate lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, went Axe throwing, visited a local brewery, and spent the night at The Elms in Excelsior Springs. While there, we met a dozen or so Kenyan natives – turned KC residents who were celebrating a birthday, and had a great time listening to African music in the pool area. When one of the women realized we didn’t have a reception, they played Michael Buble’s Feeling Good and insisted that we have our first dance then and there in the hot tub. It was so much fun! Then, of course, hiking on Sunday before picking up our brand-new puppy, an eight-week-old Boston Terrier named Milo!”
