Becoming a Kansas City Photographer
I see the world a little differently than most, I see it in a way that brings moments to life. It’s one of the many reasons why I became a Kansas City photographer. When the trees sparkle from the rays of the sun, with every sunset the light makes the world glow. It’s magical to feel so in love with the world. It kinda goes with how much I love capturing my clients life with each moment.
The real reasons why I became a Kansas City photographer wasn’t just from how I see the world, but how one Man taught me to see the world differently. That reason was my father. I get asked a lot how I began my journey in the world of KC photography. It’s so personal to me the reason I am where I am. I think it’s time to share my story with you all. I hope that it encourages you to never let a dream go.
As a child I watched my father lug around an old AE-1 Canon Camera. His father gave it to him when he was stationed in Germany in the US Army. He would capture his adventures with his old film camera. It was special to my father, and he never would let us touch it. If you went near this camera you would be in “Major” trouble. I do recall one memory where my father was teaching me metering. Which kinda intrigued me to want to learn more.
The Story of my father
Today is the annivarsary of my fathers passing. (March 30th) It was the day that forever altered me as a person. Having to grow up faster than all the other kids around me really made think about my future. I never really got to know my dad other then as a child. Let’s face it we see the world differently as a child.
I was my fathers “Happy Go Lucky” and I never lost that. It was a part of how he knew me, I didn’t want that to fade. In order for me to get to know my dad…I learned we both had a passion, that passion was “Photography.” Every time I get behind the camera, I’m seeing the world in ways others don’t. Just like he did. It connects me in a very unique way with him.
This is the reasons I became a Kansas City photographer. To share a world of love with my father. <3
It’s been 19 years since I’ve seen my father smile for a new portraits. How can life go by so fast, so many memories happen without him? I felt I needed a new memory of him and I contacted an amazing local artist who amazed me! She took a few stories, a few pictures and she made this beautiful art piece.
Follow HER! She’s one of a KIND!
Look at the details! The background has his favorite quote, the one he said every time we pulled into home. “Home again, Home again, Jiggy Jig Jig.” The little doodles of the heart and shark were from the time I painted my fathers car with my watercolors. He wanted a new paint job for fathers day…so thats what I gave him. He was so proud of the art he drove all over town showing it off. Thats his handwriting saying, “Love Daddy.” Thats his smile!!! I cried happy tears. I miss him everyday and I am thankful for all that he has taught me.
The reason why I’m a photographer is because of my Father!
